The value of the absurd

  • Hannes Nienhüser / Fine Art

‘A sort of confusion exists in my work between knowledge and experience. Like the cartoon character that steps off a cliff and, without solid ground under his feet, tries to keep running until he suddenly falls straight down, mid-air. In this way, a comedic element exists in my work. A sense of perspective is necessary to achieve an existential elasticity. When logical connections disappear, absurdity emerges. The illogical arises through the denial of reason. Nonsense can point the way to other realities aside from our current environment, and despite a seeming lack of purpose, can thus point out an actuality.’
